Research Overview
Our laboratory elucidates the neural basis of human social cognitive functions using brain imaging techniques and data analysis methods. Through state-of-the-art measurement techniques and original analytical methods, we approach the brain mechanisms that support complex social behaviors.
Research Vision
Humans are highly social beings, forming complex societies through communication and cooperation with others. Our laboratory aims to elucidate the brain mechanisms that support such social cognitive functions using the latest brain imaging techniques and advanced data analysis methods.
We aim to obtain new insights into the neural basis of social cognition by processing large-scale and complex data obtained from non-invasive brain imaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG using methods such as machine learning and time series analysis.
Main Research Themes
Functional Brain Imaging
We measure brain activity during social cognitive tasks using non-invasive brain imaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG. We particularly focus on social functions including understanding others, self/other distinction, and communication.
Research Topics
- • Time series analysis using electroencephalography (EEG)
- • High spatio-temporal resolution analysis through simultaneous fMRI and EEG
- • Dual-subject measurement using hyperscanning EEG
Development of Brain Data Analysis Methods
We develop and apply advanced analytical methods including machine learning, signal processing, and statistical analysis to extract meaningful information from complex and high-dimensional brain activity data.
Research Topics
- • Machine learning analysis of time series data
- • Functional connectivity analysis
- • Oscillatory phase analysis
Neural Basis of Social Cognition
We elucidate the brain mechanisms that support human social cognition, including theory of mind, self-other distinction, and social decision-making, through computational and experimental approaches.
